Raina is a normal 6th grader. Well that's what she wants to be. While racing back to her house from Girl Scouts, with her friends, Raina takes a very bad fall. A fall so bad that it knocks out her two front teeth. She has to go through braces (a few times), surgery, headgear, and a retainer with fake teeth! Her friends are making fun of her while going through all this. They tell her to lighten up and chill when she gets mad, but they're not being very friendly. And then there are boys. While going through all this Raina realizes her true self and what she loves.
Smile was a great book. When I first got this book I was really surprised when I opened it up. It's a graphic novel! I don't really read graphic novels so this was a change for me. I really liked it!! I liked how this book is like a timeline, it starts when Raina is in 6th grade and ends when she's in high school. I also liked how this book was a true story. I could really connect with the book because I knew this really happened in real life. This was a great book!! If you are looking for something different to read, this is the book for you!!
